Glasgow Rangers defender Nikola Katic has not enjoyed the easiest spell since arriving at Ibrox in the summer.

Nikola Katic needs to think about asking to leave Rangers on loan when the January transfer window opens as he continues to struggle for game-time at Ibrox.

Katic has not played for the Gers in well over a month, and the last time he completed 90 minutes in the Scottish Premiership was September when Steven Gerrard’s men won 5-1 against St Johnstone.

It is a surprise that he has found himself in this situation. Katic was the first defender that Gerrard signed in the summer, with The Scottish Sun reporting that he cost £2 million.

And he began the season as an important player, featuring regularly alongside Connor Goldson. But Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley now appear to be ahead of the youngster in the pecking order.

The Sun reported last month that Rangers want Dominic Iorfa in January. Should that deal go through, Katic needs to get away for a while and get some confidence back.

A loan move would be ideal. Katic has the potential to be a future star at Ibrox, but leaving temporarily may be the best move for him.

There is a long way to go in the season, but he only needs to look at someone like Joe Dodoo to see how beneficial a loan can be.

Katic is in a much better situation than the one Dodoo was in in the summer. So a good spell away from Rangers could be much better for the centre-back than biding his time at Ibrox and hoping another chance comes his way.
