Rangers want Nicolas Raskin and Standard Liege have held talks over his future amid the prospect of a late move to Ibrox this week.

The Gers are into the Champions League group stage and that should have boosted their transfer kitty for the final days of the window.

Rangers have already done plenty of business this summer by signing John Souttar, Ben Davies, Ridvan Yilmaz, Malik Tillman, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak.

Yet if Rangers want to try and chase down Celtic – who produced a stunning 9-0 win over Dundee United today – they may need more new faces.

Rangers want Nicolas Raskin

With Glen Kamara heavily linked with a move away from Rangers, the Gers may well look for another central midfielder.

One name in the mix is Standard Liege ace Nicolas Raskin.

La Dernière Heure in Belgium report that Rangers are keen on signing Raskin and the midfielder fancies a move away from Belgium.

It’s stated that Standard Liege want around €5.5million (£4.7million) for Raskin, who has just one year left on his contract.

The report even adds that Standard boss Ronny Deila – yes, the former Celtic manager – called a meeting with club executives to talk about Raskin’s future.

Deila won’t want to be left short should Raskin leave in the final day of the transfer window, so that meeting will likely have discussed potential replacements.

Raskin, 23, is primarily a holding midfield player who has been described as a ‘pitbull’ by Belgian journalist Bob Faesen.

Rangers do need to think about a future beyond Steven Davis and Raskin could be the man to emerge as his heir.

Reports in January suggested that Leeds United were closing in on a £6million deal for Raskin, but that never materialised.

Rangers could now swoop in and sign him for almost £1.5million less, with Standard seemingly preparing themselves for a late departure.
