Graeme Murty could join Newcastle United with the former Rangers coach in contention for a role in the Premier League club’s academy.
Newcastle are looking for any way to improve having been taken over by PIF back in October.
That started with coaching moves like Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall joining the club, with various signings made in January and this summer too.
This isn’t just about first-team success either, as Newcastle also want to make strides with their academy setup.
Newcastle haven’t haven’t exactly had great success bringing through young talent in recent years so additions will be made to the setup in their academy.
Graeme Murty could join Newcastle United
One move that could now materialise surrounds a deal for former Rangers coach Graeme Murty.
The Daily Record claim that Murty is ‘set’ to take a role within Newcastle’s academy as he makes a return to coaching.
Murty left Rangers in 2021 and did come close to landing a managerial job at Ayr United before they instead appointed Lee Bullen.
Murty is now wanted by Newcastle in a deal that could give them exactly what they’re seeking.

The former Scotland international spent most of his time at Rangers coaching young players, helping develop the likes of Nathan Patterson, Leon King and Alex Lowry.
Whether it’s providing players for the first team or selling youngsters on for big money, Newcastle need to improve and Murty has helped Rangers with both of those factors.
Murty did have a spell in caretaker charge of Rangers during the 2017-18 season, seeing Rangers through before Steven Gerrard’s arrival.
A return to English football could now appeal to the former Reading defender and Newcastle appear to be pushing forward with a move for Murty.
The hope is that Murty can develop some first-team talent for Newcastle in the coming years and succeed where others have failed in recent times.
