Rangers’ new signing Daniel Candeias has told the club’s official website that he thinks Bruno Alves and Dalcio are important signings for the club.

Candeias, 29, became Rangers’ fifth signing of the summer on Sunday afternoon, penning a two-year deal at Ibrox as he follows Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack and Dalcio to Glasgow.

The winger, who played under Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha at Nacional in their native Portugal, joins from Benfica and will provide quality out wide or this rebuilt Rangers side.

Whilst Carlos Pena, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos are also set for Rangers pending work permits being granted, Candeias has focused on two of his compatriots.

Centre back Alves may be 35, but the Portuguese international – who has racked up 90 caps for his country – will bring experience and aggression to a Rangers defence that was too porous last season.

Additionally, winger Dalcio has joined on loan from Benfica, and he is more of an unknown quantity. The 20-year-old provides pace and versatility across the front line, and could be a difference make off the bench for Caixinha.

Now, Candeias has hailed Alves as a ‘fantastic player’, telling the club’s official website that he thinks Alves can help centre back Cardoso kick on at Ibrox and boost the Rangers defence.

Candeias added that he thinks Dalcio ‘has a lot of quality’, believing that the little-known forward can improve with a great chance to play regularly for Rangers.

“I know Bruno Alves from when I was at Porto, I played with him there and I trained with Fabio Cardoso at Benfica,” said Candeias. “Bruno is a fantastic player, I don’t need to say too much about him because he is already known worldwide and is a top central defender. Having the opportunity to play with Bruno will help Fabio a lot; when I was at Porto he did the same for me and for the young kid. I think that will be really important for him.”

“I don’t know Dalcio personally but I have had the opportunity to watch him in a few games and he has a lot of quality, for a player of his generation this is a really good opportunity for him here to improve his football, “ he added.
