Rangers new boy Juninho Bacuna has told how the Light Blues tried to sign him last season before eventually luring him to Ibrox this summer as the Dutch-born midfielder spoke for the first time following his move to the Scottish champions.
Bacuna’s arrival at Ibrox was confirmed shortly before Steven Gerrard’s side took on Alashkert in the Europa League on Thursday night with the Curacao international being presented to fans at Ibrox at half-time of the 1-0 win.
The 24-year-old hopes he can use his experience of playing in the Premier League with Huddersfield can help him impress in Scotland as he warned SPFL sides that he is thinks being at Rangers can help bring the best out of him.
“Rangers is a big club with a lot of history,” Bacuna told Rangers TV. “There was interest in me last season, but unfortunately, it didn’t go through.
“So I kept my eye a little bit on Rangers last season and they became champions, and it is nice to be a part of it now.
“It is great that a team like Rangers is interested in you, especially after the have become the champions.
“To be a part of it is nice and it means a lot and I am ready to start going and improve myself, learn from the boys and learn from the manager.
“I have got experience in the Premier League, and while it didn’t go the way I wanted it to, I have that experience and I will look to bring that experience here and show what I can do here.
“This team likes to play football and likes to be on the ball and dominate the game. I have seen a lot of the players and I think that is going to suit me.
“I am 24 years old and I am hungry to play. I think with the style this team is going to play, it will suit me and I can be at my best here.”
Bacuna is unlikely to be involved this afternoon when the Gers take on Ross County in Dingwall – although after injuries to Scott Wright and Ianis Hagi, he could be pitched onto the bench.
The former Groningen star hasn’t played much football regularly so he may take some time to get fully up to speed for Rangers.
He’ll also sit out Thursday’s Europa League clash but will be hoping the Gers can make it to the group stages so he can get the chance to shine on the continental stage.
