Rangers tied up another signing on Saturday evening in Calvin Bassey – and fans are learning more and more about him.
The Gers have already signed Jermain Defoe and Ianis Hagi permanently, and then landed Northern Irish teenager Charlie Lindsay on Friday.
Come Saturday night, another new face was on board. Full back Bassey agreed to join from Leicester City, having refused a new deal with the Foxes.
Bassey’s deal ends this summer, and rather than stay with the Premier League side, he has chosen to move on and join Rangers.
With Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday leaving this summer, Bassey has a great chance to break through at Rangers and become Borna Barisic’s competition.
The 20-year-old can also play at centre back, but praise from his former mentor Paul Aladejare suggests that Rangers may waste Bassey if they play him in the heart of defence.
Aladejare – the found of CrownPro Elite Football Academy – has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Bassey is comparable to Marcelo or David Alaba, before then suggesting the is like a left-sided Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Steven Gerrard would no doubt love to see Bassey become like Alexander-Arnold. Gerrard called Alexander-Arnold ‘world class’ earlier this season, and Aladejare believes that Bassey has the pace, power and ability on the ball will make him an ideal attacking full back.
“Calvin was a central midfielder as a kid, but we converted him to left-back,” said Aladejare. “We worked really closely with him and at that time I was working for Leicester too. He did very well at Leicester and I would describe him as an energetic, attacking full-back. He’s in the mould of Marcelo or Alaba. He’s a modern player, like a left-sided Trent Alexander-Arnold.”
“Calvin has pace and power and moves well with the ball. He is also technically very strong. His speed makes it really difficult for wingers to get past him and he recovers really well. But he loves going forward too. He’s leggy and very comfortable in the final third. You will see him bombing up and down the line all the time and I’m sure it will suit Rangers,” he added.
