Rangers new boy Bruno Alves has told the club’s official website that he is happy to have Pedro Caixinha as his manager having completed his move to Ibrox today.

Caixinha saw his Rangers side finish in third place in the Scottish Premiership table having arrived as Mark Warburton’s replacement in March, and in order to chase down Celtic at the top of the table, he needs new signings this summer.

The first player is through the door, as Rangers today confirmed that defender Bruno Alves has joined the club on a two-year deal from Italian side Cagliari.

Alves, 35, brings bags of European experience having featured for the likes of Porto, Zenit St. Petersburg and Fenerbahce, before joining Cagliari on a free transfer last summer.

On the international stage, Alves has made 89 appearances for Portugal, and even helped his country win the European Championships last summer to add another honour to his lengthy list.

Alves showed that he still has the legs to play at a high level having featured 36 times for Cagliari in Serie A this past season, and he will now be relied upon to solidify the Rangers defence.

After completing his move to Ibrox earlier today, Alves spoke to the Rangers official website about his move, admitting that he is happy to have Caixinha as his new manager, highlighting his importance in the move.

Alves added that he thinks Caixinha has the quality and mentality to take Rangers back to success once again – words that will give Rangers fans belief that good times are on the horizon.

“I know him and I know about the work he did in Portugal and also some players that he coached before,” said Alves. “I’m happy to be coached by him. I think he has the quality and he has the ideas to make this club successful again.”

“I think it was for the project, for the future, what he wants to bring here. He was so important for me to join the team and I think he’s capable and able to win. This kind of person can bring a lot to the club and can make the difference. I think Caixinha has the right mentality to bring back the victories and all that everybody wants,” he added.
