Former Rangers midfielder Jamie Ness isn’t surprised that Ibrox veterans Steven Davis and Allan McGregor are still “doing it” at the top level and winning titles – and insists the Light Blues have a “really good foundation” to dominate Scottish football.
Ness broke through at Ibrox 10 years ago, playing alongside the veteran duo in his handful of appearances in the first-team, calling McGregor’s ability back then “unbelievable.”
Having watched Nathan Patterson burst onto the scene over the last 18 months, securing his place in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for Euro 2020, Ness has been pleased to see the full-back impress since making the step up.
While Gers fans are still celebrating the title triumph that saw the Light Blues crowned champions back in March, Ness admits he “wouldn’t have believed it” had you told him that the league win in 2011 would be the last in a decade.
“If you’d said you have to wait 10 years to win another title you wouldn’t have believed it,” Ness told the Essential Scottish Football Podcast.
“It’s been some journey but the way they’ve gone about it this season has been incredible. To not lose a game all season is an unbelievable feat.
“They have stalwarts like Greegsy and Davo performing as well as they did 10 years ago when they last won the title. So they have a really good foundation to kick on and establish themselves as the best team in Scotland.
“Davo was a joy to play with, he was just so calm, composed and good on the ball. Greegsy was unbelievable, the saves he’d pull off even in training were incredible. It’s no surprise to see them still doing it.
“Nathan Patterson has also done really well and it’s always good to see players coming through. It’s exciting for Scottish football as well.”
The Light Blues won’t have long to rest ahead of the new season getting underway and the start of their title defence and a crack at qualification for the Champions League group stage.

With the likes of Davis and McGregor arguably playing the best football of their illustrious careers, Rangers should be in a very good position to try establish their dominance.
