Lawrence Shankland sent a come-get-me plea to Rangers in December.

The Ayr United hitman, on the books with the Gers in his younger years, said he ‘hopes so’ when asked on BBC’s Off the Ball radio show whether he had unfinished business at Ibrox.

Now is the time for Rangers to make a move for the 23-year-old – who has scored 30 goals for the Championship outfit this season – because It could be too late if they wait until his contract expires this summer.

According to The Sun [Feb 18, page 61], Swansea City are in talks with Shankland over a summer switch, but he might be needed in Glasgow.

Steven Gerrard has healthy striking options for now, but there’s no guarantees that Alfredo Morelos will still be a Rangers player come August, while Jermain Defoe, on an 18-month loan from Bournemouth, turns 37 in October.

Gerrard could do with a player like Shankland and considering he’s available on a free transfer, why not?

The 37-year-old manager signed up Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara on pre-contract agreements in January – the latter of whom has since joined up with Gerrard’s squad – and it’s time to seriously consider striking a similar deal with Shankland before the Welsh side snap him up.
