Rangers remain in the market for a new manager after sacking Pedro Caixinha last month, with the search now entering a third week.

The Gers parted ways with Caixinha after seven months in the Ibrox job, and whilst caretaker Graeme Murty has started with two wins in two games, other candidates are being linked.

Derek McInnes and Michael O’Neill are two of the main names being touted for the job, but a 25/1 short with Sky Bet is former Rangers man Frank de Boer.

Rangers need to find their own version of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers; a major coup with ties to the club who can come in and possibly rebuild his reputation whilst driving the club forward whilst holding a strong bond with the fans.

Few managers fit that kind of bill like De Boer, who is out of work after a swift exit from Crystal Palace, where he was given just five games in the job despite attempting to implement and entirely different brand of football.

The 47-year-old excelled with Ajax, winning four Eredivisie titles during his time with the Amsterdam giants, before a brief spell in charge of Italian giants Inter Milan – and with his last two jobs proving to be failures, he needs a strong job somewhere else.

De Boer was most comfortable at a club where he had strong ties and a clear project at Ajax, and having played for Rangers in 2004, the prospect of returning to Ibrox in order to chase down Celtic should appeal.

De Boer’s stock as a manager has never been lower, and this may be the ideal chance for Rangers to swoop in and offer him the chance to rebuild his career and reputation, with fans potentially in line to be excited about him in the same way that Celtic fans were excited about Rodgers.
