Three players who could be Rangers’ version of Scott Brown

Kevin Thomson says Rangers need to get their own version of Celtic’s Scott Brown, so here are three possible options from the Scottish Premiership.

Kevin Thomson says new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard needs his own version of Celtic captain Scott Brown if they are to challenge their Old Firm rivals.

Thomson, who is currently a youth coach at Ibrox, played alongside Brown at Hibernian and thinks the midfielder is key to the success the Bhoys have enjoyed in recent times.

“You look at Scotty, no-one can tell me he doesn’t do a good job across the city,” the 33-year-old told the Scotsman.

“Steven has done the same thing for every dressing room he was in at Liverpool. That’s the sign of a good captain.

“He’ll be looking for someone that can do that for Rangers.”

So who could Gerrard sign to become Gers’ own version of Brown? Here are three possible options from the Scottish Premiership.

Allan Campbell

Likened to Chelsea star N’Golo Kante for his tenacity in midfield and willingness to make tough tackles, like the Frenchman Campbell is so much more than an enforcer.

Since being promoted from the Motherwell academy the 19-year-old has developed into a more complete player with his driving runs forward from the middle.

Glen Kamara

Already linked with Rangers by Wales Online – along with Celtic, Derby County and Swansea City – after a fine first season at Dundee, the 22-year-old certainly has the capability to emulate Brown.

Comfortable in possession and with a superb eye for a pass, Kamara’s best work is done from deep lying positions and he really does look ready to make the step up.

Youssuf Mulumbu

Without a club by November, Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke – who had previously worked with Mulumbu at West Bromwich Albion – gave the 31-year-old a contract until the end of the campaign.

Clarke perhaps now wishes it had been longer, with the Democratic Republic of Congo international key in victories over the Hoops and Gers and is a free agent this summer.
