Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass has been linked with the Ibrox exit with a number of sides reportedly interested.

Josh Windass of Rangers looks dejected after the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on April 29, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It feels as if it has become a regular occurrence during the transfer windows for Josh Windass to be linked with a potential move away from Rangers after something of a mixed spell at Ibrox.

Windass has never quite been able to win over all of the Gers fans during his time in the Scottish Premeirship. Nevertheless, Steven Gerrard would have been forgiven at the start of the summer for wanting to do all he could to keep the attacking midfielder given his hugely impressive goals return last season.

The Englishman scored 18 goals in all competitions last year. And at the start of the window, losing Windass would have seemed like one of the worst possible events that could possibly take place this summer for the Gers in regards to their playing squad.

However, with the new domestic season emerging swiftly on the horizon, and amid reports that a number of sides are keen on signing Windass, it seems fair to say that Rangers have got themselves into a position which makes selling 24-year-old seem a much less frightening prospect.

The Daily Mail reported on their live transfer blog (24/07; 13:20) that West Ham, Burnley, Aston Villa and West Brom are all keen on signing Windass, who is seriously considering leaving amid concerns over the role that he will play under Gerrard.

Windass has looked poor in both of Rangers’ first two Europa League qualifiers and received a hard time from the supporters when he was replaced during the first game against Shkupi by academy prospect Glenn Middleton.

Middleton is certainly pushing for a prolonged run in the first-team, while the likes of Ryan Kent and Jamie Murphy have been signed during the window to strengthen Rangers’ options in attacking areas.

It is not difficult to see why Windass is concerned about his future at Rangers. And, while it may appear to be a gamble to sanction the forward’s departure – he arguably has the potential to prove an inspired signing for those sides interested – Rangers seem to have put themselves in a position where selling him makes a lot of sense.

A deal would see Gerrard roll the dice, but it would boost his transfer funds – and that could prove extremely beneficial with the club arguably still needing to sign a new striker before the window closes.
