Rangers made a big mistake letting Lewis Morgan go in 2013 – and Celtic are now attempting to scupper their hopes of bringing him back to Ibrox.

Celtic have made a habit of beating Rangers since they returned to the Scottish top flight in 2016.
The Hoops have emerged victorious over The Gers in five of their six meetings since the start of last season, boasting a rather healthy 17-5 aggregate scoreline to boot. Just imagine the frustration among Rangers supporters, then, if Celtic snatched one of their primary targets in January too.

The 21-year-old has scored eight goals in 13 games in all competitions this season and, with his contract expiring at the end of the 2017/18 campaign, both clubs are hopeful that they can strike a cut-price deal in the January transfer window.
Firming up interest
Whether Celtic even need Morgan in the first place is debateable. If Jonny Hayes (below), a summer signing from Aberdeen and a PFA Player of the Year nominee last season, can’t get into Celtic’s starting XI then what chance would Morgan have in the same left-wing position?

Though supporters would certainly relish the prospect of beating Rangers not only to one of Scotland’s most talented youngsters but a player The Light Blues have let slip through their net once before.
Morgan started his career in Rangers’ youth academy but was released back in 2013, joining St Mirren before establishing himself as one of the top flight’s most promising starlets just four years on.
Therefore, if Rangers lose out to Celtic for a player who could make a real difference in Caixinha’s first XI, a hefty dose of salt will be applied to the wounds.
