Rangers chairman says club are closing in on Celtic, not all agree.
Pundit Michael Stewart has issued a firm rebuke to Rangers chairman Dave King’s comments the club are closing in on rivals Celtic.
King was quoted by STV in a letter to Rangers fans claiming: “We are now within tangible reach of Rangers becoming the dominant force in Scottish football again.”
While Rangers have made a modicum of progress compared to last season, King’s assertions are misguided.
Celtic are closing in on triple treble, and really are Scottish football’s dominant force.
Rangers have not even made a cup final this season, and look set to fall well short in the league.
Pundit Michael Stewart has laughed off King’s claims.
He told the Daily Record that a catastrophe at Celtic is the only way Rangers can get to where he wants them to be.
Stewart said: “It is not even close, as the season we’ve just seen shows. For Rangers to get to that position, they need Celtic to have another catastrophe of a transfer window like they did last year.
“They need them to financially implode and Rangers to find extra revenue from somewhere and to spend and hit the mark on every acquisition they bring in for them to even stand a remote chance.”
Rangers take on Celtic on May 12 at Ibrox, and a defeat for Rangers will leave King looking humiliated.
