Celtic continue to go from strength to strength, winning a fourth successive domestic trophy at the weekend.
Brendan Rodgers’ side beat Motherwell 2-0 to win the Scottish League Cup, dispatching the team who had knocked rivals Rangers out in the previous round, denying an Old Firm final.
Not that a Celtic v Rangers clash would have been much more competitive.
Brendan Rodgers is unbeaten against Rangers and his Celtic have won two of the matches 5-1.
Rangers have lost their last two games to Hamilton Academical and Dundee.
But Celtic’s latest trophy win can yet be an opportunity for Rangers.
The Rangers players and staff should have been watching the final, burning up with frustration that they were not there competing.
Sooner or later something has to snap with the club’s board, and they finally need to make a decision to move forward.
There can only be so much of Celtic winning relentlessly before a resolve is finally strengthened to do something about it.
That could be players lifting their game, a new manager with a big approach, or attracting major investment at boardroom level.
Celtic’s win continues their dominance, but it also hammers home Rangers’ ongoing shortcomings.
They must use this to search within to try and find solutions, and recognise that the status quo an is unacceptable state of play.
