Rangers have been linked with Jamie Murphy, but will Josh Windass leave Ibrox?

Glasgow Rangers have been linked with an impressive move for Jamie Murphy, but there is a chance the winger’s arrival could precede a departure from Ibrox.

The Mail reported this week that Rangers plan to spend as much as £1 million on Murphy, but in the same report described how Preston are planning to bid the same amount for Gers attacker Josh Windass.

It could leave Rangers ‘even’ at a financial level after both deals, but in sporting terms, there is not really much progress if they sign one valuable player only to lose another.

Windass struggled under former boss Pedro Caixinha, but has really improved since Graeme Murty took over.

He has scored six goals and provided five assists this season, with five goals and three assists coming under Murty.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Windass has flourished in a central role, which suggests he could play in the same line-up as wide man Murphy.

Rangers owe it to themselves to keep Windass, and see how the pair perform together.

Keeping Windass is important as with Murphy, the club have a chance to move forward – without him they risk standing still.
