In case Joe Worrall is recalled by Martin O’Neill, Glasgow Rangers should spite Celtic by bringing the Aberdeen man and reported Hoops target to Ibrox.
Over the past few days, there have been rumours swirling round on the internet suggesting that Celtic were set to sign Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, but as yet, a move has failed to materialise.
According to a report from the Daily Mail in November, the Hoops were keen to bring the 6ft 2in ace to Parkhead, and earlier this week, the defender was pictured in Glasgow, which prompted speculation, though he was guesting on a radio show.
In addition, McKenna continues to be linked to other clubs, with the Daily Record suggesting that new Aston Villa boss Dean Smith remains interested in the player.
Over at Rangers, meanwhile, there have been reports suggesting that Nottingham Forest loanee Joe Worrall could be recalled by new Reds boss – and former Celtic boss – Martin O’Neill.
If that was to happen, then the Light Blues could look to replace Worrall with McKenna, a move which would come with several benefits.
The first is that he’s a superb defender and would undoubtedly bolster any club’s back line, the second is that it would deprive Celtic of a great player, and the third is a statement of intent that Gers are back and they’re not to be messed around with.
Although McKenna is contracted to Aberdeen until 2023, he is valued at Transfermarkt at £1.1million, making him affordable, and given his age and talent – not to mention the ability to rub Celtic’s noses in it – it would certainly be money well spent.
