Steven Gerrard’s Rangers need Ross McCrorie to start, argues pundit.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers is seen in action during the Scottish Cup 5th Round match between Kilmarnock and Rangers at Rugby Park on February 9, 2019 in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

Ross McCrorie is the key to Rangers beating Celtic, argues ex-Gers ace Lee McCulloch.

McCulloch told The Herald that he believes Rangers need to select McCrorie as his attributes are ideal for this type of game.

Rangers have numerous options in midfielder with Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Lassana Coulibaly and Steven Davis all competing with McCrorie for selection.

McCulloch said he believes McCrorie, 21, is the key to Rangers getting a result.

He said: “I can see Ross McCrorie coming into the team to add that bit of needle. He covers the ground well, he matches his runners and he is strong in the tackle.

“He is a really disciplined football player and character and he is good in the air so he can do his bit at set plays, both for and against. I think he could be one of the main men to help Rangers get a performance and a result on the day.”

McCrorie is just part of the puzzle and midfield is not the only position where Steven Gerrard has a dilemma.

He has an injury worry at left-back and needs to still work out his best central defensive partnership.

Another decision which lies ahead is whether or not to pick Jermain Defoe, instead of, or with Alfredo Morelos, or even not at all.

Rangers need to get a win to keep their title dreams afloat.
