Rangers must continue to monitor Bristol City ace Matty Taylor with view to January move

Rangers were linked to Matty Taylor a year ago and should continue to keep track of him.

Kenny Miller’s uncertain situation at Glasgow Rangers should push the club into the transfer market for a new striker this summer to partner Alfredo Morelos.

One potential target who they considered a year ago is Bristol City forward Matty Taylor.

The Mirror reported last November that Rangers were one of four sides monitoring the prolific forward, who was then starring for Bristol Rovers.

Taylor stunned everybody by swapping Bristol clubs in January, but his move has not been an instant success.

At Rovers he scored 37 goals in one-and-a-half seasons at League Two and League One level, before jumping to the Championship with City.

His spell at Ashton Gate has been disappointing so far, netting only twice last season, and this campaign he has no goals in four Championship appearances, all from the bench, with a sole striker coming in the Carabao Cup.

Taylor is a goalscorer, but he needs games, and this is why Rangers should re-consider him for a January move if Bristol City consider him expendable.

Alfredo Morelos has been a big success so far, but 27-year-old Taylor would relieve some of the pressure on the Colombian, and he could benefit from making the switch.
