Glasgow Rangers have previously been linked with trying to bring Will Vaulks to Ibrox, and he may be on the move in January.

While strengthening his midfield options may not have previously been a priority for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard heading into January, Ovie Ejaria’s departure has potentially left the Gers with a void to fill.

Ejaria took many by surprise by departing Ibrox just a few months into his season-long loan with the Light Blues. Although Rangers fans will argue that they never saw the best of the youngster, Gerrard has lost a player that he put plenty of faith in.

His exit perhaps makes reports concerning a former Gers target particularly intriguing, as he could arguably be a decent replacement for Ejaria next month.

The Daily Mail reported in January that Rangers were one of the clubs keen on signing Will Vaulks from Rotherham United.

Vaulks remains on Rotherham’s books, helping them secure promotion last season and scoring four goals in all competitions since their return to the Championship.

However, with 18 months left on his deal, the Daily Mail is now reporting that he could be sold in January. The report suggests that Rotherham ideally want over £1.5 million for the midfielder but may struggle to turn down decent offers.

His versatility could make him an excellent addition to Rangers’ squad. Vaulks can add to Gerrard’s midfield options, but also provide cover at full-back. It is not an area where the Gers are short of numbers, but it could be beneficial during games if the manager has to be flexible and change his system.

And given that he could potentially prove to be a bargain addition if Rangers are able to land him for a low seven-figure fee when the window opens, reigniting their interest appears to make a lot of sense.
