Glasgow Rangers return to Ibrox on Wednesday, but Steven Gerrard looks to be without two left-backs for the game.

Scott Brown and Scott Bain of Celtic are confronted by Andy Halliday of Rangers at the final whistle during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic...

Following the scenes after the full-time whistle on Sunday, it emerged that Andy Halliday became the second Rangers player of the afternoon to pick up a red card as he was shown a second yellow in the tunnel after seemingly taking exception to the Gers’ opponents choosing to conduct their post-match celebrations in front of the visiting fans.

So with Borna Barisic injured ahead of the Old Firm game, Steven Gerrard is seemingly set to go into Wednesday’s clash with Hearts without his two first-choice left-backs.

If fit, Jon Flanagan is perhaps the obvious candidate to come in. Gerrard appears to have lost confidence in the former Liverpool man, but he has played in that role at various points throughout the campaign.

But it must be said that Lee Wallace’s situation seemed to become a bigger elephant in the room the moment it was announced that Halliday had been dismissed against Celtic.

Wallace has played twice all season and it appears to be a safe bet to predict that he will probably be on the move when the summer transfer window opens.

The 31-year-old has endured a bizarre 12 months, but he arguably deserves credit for the way he has not publicly complained about his situation – even when Gerrard hinted earlier in the campaign that he considered the former club captain to be the fourth best left-back on his books (via Herald Scotland).

Given Gerrard’s problems in that position heading into Wednesday, picking Wallace would arguably be a popular decision. And perhaps, an outstanding performance may leave Wallace’s future a little more up in the air than it seems to be right now.
