Are Rangers or Celtic doing the better deal for a winger this month?

Rangers are closing in on a move for Jamie Murphy, with The Mail reporting they are in advanced talks to land the winger.

The Brighton ace would immediately strengthen Rangers, and help them close the quality gap on rivals Celtic.

Murphy can be a key signing for Rangers for seasons to come, but Celtic might be pulling off a deal which pans out to be even better long term.

That concerns their move for Lewis Morgan, who The Express reported was set complete his switch to Celtic today from St Mirren.

Morgan is heading back to St Mirren on loan, but that is just a temporary step before he begins what could be a glittering Celtic career.

Murphy may be the more accomplished and battle hardened player right now, and at 28 he should be entering the peak years of his career.

Morgan has all that to come, and at just 21-years-old, is only just scratching the surface on what he is capable of.

The Scotland under-21 winger has bagged 13 goals this season already and provided eight assists, and could be a star for the next decade.

This will sting particularly for Rangers considering he was once part of their academy and they let him go.

Rangers should be happy with Jamie Murphy signing, and he will help them challenge Celtic, but Brendan Rodgers’ side are plotting beyond this season and Morgan can help them pull away once more.
