Rangers have managed to lure Ross Wilson to Ibrox.
Rangers have secured the services of Ross Wilson as their new director of football, with Southampton confirming the move on their official website.
The Gers saw Mark Allen leave the club last month, meaning they had to find a new director of football to replace the former Manchester City man.
Few names were linked with the post, as the main target was clearly Wilson – as it was when Rangers wanted a director of football in 2017.
Rangers weren’t able to lure Wilson away from Southampton back then, meaning they instead went for Allen, but they’ve got their man this time.
The former Falkirk, Watford and Southampton man will now head back to Scotland, finally taking up the role at Ibrox with Rangers no doubt feeling they’ve landed a coup.
Wilson leaves his position as Southampton’s director of football operations, and Saints CEO Martin Semmens has reacted to the move.
Semmens has admitted that as soon as Wilson made it known that Rangers wanted him, he knew that Wilson wouldn’t be rejecting the move again.
Semmens added his gratitude to Wilson for his work at Southampton, before confirming that he will start work at Rangers tomorrow.
“From the moment Ross made me aware of the opportunity to return home to Scotland, it was clear that this was an opportunity he could not turn down at this time,” said Semmens.
“I would like to put on record, on behalf of everyone involved in the club, our thanks for the tireless hard work and energy Ross has given to Saints over the last five years. Ross will leave the club with our best wishes on Tuesday 15th October,” he added.
