The Rangers youngster hasn’t made a single appearance since December – much to the disappointment of a number of supporters.
Joe Dodoo’s finest game in senior football remains his first one. Dispatching a clinical hat-trick as Leicester City cruised beyond Bury in the early stages of the EFL Cup, the then-20-year-old striker had set the bar extremely high.
And, in the two seasons since, Dodoo continues to dine off the dazzling glimpse of potential, that raw pace, precision and deadeyed finishing, that saw him explode into the professional game. Yet, the jet-heeled, Ghanaian-born striker has only made 24 appearances since – three for Leicester, five on loan at Bury ironically and 16 for Scottish giants Rangers.
Signed for a £250,000 compensation fee in the summer once his contract at Leicester had expired, as reported by the Daily Record, Dodoo arriving at Ibrox in a deal almost identical to the one that took Moussa Dembele from Fulham to Celtic.
However, while the Frenchman (below) is being linked with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and co thanks to a remarkable tally of 32 goals in all competitions, Dodoo has struck just four times in Rangers colours and hasn’t made an appearance since December.
This is despite the fact that Rangers, so reliant on six-goal top scorer Kenny Miller, have notched comfortably the lowest amount of goals in the top four. Dodoo is far from the finished article but he’ll never smooth out those rough edges without the faith of a manager.
Yet, a number of fans are desperate to see the former England Under-18 international in action. He’s quick, direct and a player with the potential to get Ibrox rising to its feet.
Mark Warburton didn’t seem to trust Dodoo and Graeme Murty is yet to hand him a single minute of football. However, giving the 21-year-old a chance would earn the next Rangers manager some early admirers on the Ibrox terraces.
