Liverpool-owned Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria has revealed to The Times what Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard has been trying to improve in his game.

Ejaria, who joined Rangers on loan from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, has also admitted that it was mentally tough for him at Sunderland, who got relegated from the Championship to League One at the end of last season.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Sunderland after joining the Black Cats on loan from the Reds in the January transfer window.

The youngster made nine starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship for Sunderland, scoring one goal in the process, according to WhoScored.

“I was on loan at Sunderland last season and we weren’t winning many games and at times it was mentally tough,” Ejaria told The Times.

“The gaffer speaks to me about playing with confidence and doing both sides of the game, in possession and out of possession, really well. Any time he speaks, I listen.”

Progressing at Rangers

Ejaria is doing well for Rangers at the moment and has established himself as an important player in Gerrard’s team.

The England Under-21 international has scored one goal in eight Scottish Premiership appearances and has played in two Europa League games for the Glasgow giants, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The 20-year-old is still learning and developing as a footballer, and working under Gerrard – one of the greatest midfielders of all time – is only going to make him better.
