Rangers midfielder Stephen Kelly has spoken about helping Ross County avoid relegation from the Scottish Premiership last season while he was on loan at the Staggies and confessed he just tried to focus on the football side of things and ignore the pressure.
Kelly has caught the eye for Rangers in pre-season so far and was a regular in the County side during his year in Dingwall, and told how they just tried to go from game to game and get the results they needed.
The Scotland under-21 cap has featured in all three games for Steven Gerrard’s side this summer and if he remains with the first-team squad he’ll likely face more pressure than he ever did in the Highlands, but Kelly’s performances – both for County and Rangers – show a player who has no problems keeping composed.
“I tried not to focus on the position we were in the league,” Kelly told Rangers TV. “We were just going and trying to get a result then onto the next game then the next game and training hard every day.
“I just tried to ignore the pressure side of things and focus on the football.”
Injuries could help Kelly get early chance to shine for Rangers
With Ryan Jack still sidelined and Nnamdi Ofoborh out indefinitely, it could give Kelly a chance to come into the side and impress.
The Rangers Academy graduate could well be the next homegrown talent to secure a regular place in the squad as the Light Blues defend their title.
