The Rangers midfielder says he is relishing the added responsibility of guiding the 20-year-old.
Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton says playing alongside young midfielder Andy Murdoch is getting the best out of him, according to the club’s official website.
The 24-year-old has been playing with Murdoch in midfield of late and says guiding the youngster gives him more responsibility – something he very much enjoys.
Murdoch, 20, recently signed a new deal with Rangers, news that pleased many fans but led some supporters to question whether the club were too hasty to offer him a new contract so quickly.
He has quickly established himself as a first-team member at Ibrox and Hutton is enjoying partnering him in the Rangers midfield.
“I like having that little bit more responsibility now. I remember when I was a younger lad coming in to the team I had everyone around me helping me out and it was great for me,” Hutton said.
“I’m enjoying playing with wee Murdy. I played with him quite a bit at reserve level at the start of the season. We got on well playing together there and we’ve taken that into the first team now.
“He is a good player and listens well. He’s good on the ball, he has good technical ability as you saw with his goal against Raith Rovers. I enjoy playing with him and a hope that he can continue to kick on and do well in the squad.”
Following last Friday’s 1-1 draw at Falkirk, Rangers boss Kenny McDowall has praised Hutton and Murdoch for their recent contribution to the Gers side.
Both fought their corner against Falkirk, according to the Rangers coach, while others fell short of the mark and must do better in future.
Next up for Rangers are Cowdenbeath this Saturday, with the Gers only four points behind second-placed Hibernian in the Scottish Championship, with three games in hand over Hibs.
