The Glasgow Rangers midfielder will soon have a new manager to impress, if he can get on the field.
When Rangers signed Jordan Rossiter from Liverpool it looked like a brilliant piece of business by the Scottish club. After all, here was a player who had impressed while coming through the ranks at Anfield and had featured five times for the Reds as a teenager.
But thus far Rangers fans have not seen the best of Rossiter, with injuries taking their toll and the 20-year-old managing only 10 first-team appearances to date.
Even without his injury woes, it seemed clear that Rossiter was not in Pedro Caixinha’s immediate plans, so the Portuguese manager’s dismissal could be the ideal opportunity for the youngster to stake a claim, with caretaker boss Graeme Murty not afraid to give youth a chance.
Then there is the not so small matter of whoever replaces Caixinha long term, with Rossiter – like his Rangers teammates – well aware of the importance of first impressions.
Whatever has gone before could soon be forgotten if the Rangers midfielder can shake off his previous problems and replicate the form that earned him recognition at Anfield.
The Gers need more quality in key areas and if Rossiter plays regularly, Ibrox could yet find themselves a new hero.
The midfielder is far too young to be judged on his early showings but one wonders if the next few weeks could make or break his Rangers career.
