Glasgow Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has taken a little time to get going following his loan move away from Ibrox.

Docherty left the Gers to join the League One side on loan and made an encouraging start to life with the club. But he was left out of the EFL Trophy side in midweek and found himself on the bench for their trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.
But Docherty did get the chance to prove a point and took advantage of the opportunity as he scored the game’s opening goal with just over 15 minutes to go. It was a neat finish on the volley from the youngster, but it was not enough to see his side bag the three points as the home team equalised from the spot.
And after the game, Docherty suggested that he hoped that he had done enough to force his way into the starting lineup for next weekend’s clash with Southend.

“It’s been frustrating watching the last game or two, I wanted to come on and show that I should be on the pitch, hopefully I’ve done that and I’m put in the thoughts for next week.”

It will be a boost for Docherty to get that goal at Fratton Park. Not only did it send a message to John Askey, but the composure he showed would have perhaps reminded some at Ibrox as to why he was brought to the club in January.
It would be a massive surprise if Docherty’s future at Rangers hinged on how he got on during his time away from the Gers, but a successful spell will definitely stand him in great stead for his return to the Scottish Premiership side next summer.
