HITC Sport understands the Rangers midfielder is set for a loan switch to Scunthorpe.

Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks is poised to join Scunthorpe United on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Crooks has struggled to make an impact at Rangers since joining the club in the summer, with injuries restricting him to just three appearances for the club.

The 22-year-old signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers in January of last year before moving to Glasgow last summer, having starred with League Two side Accrington Stanley.

The 6ft 4in holding midfielder hit eight goals in 53 games for Accrington having joined from Huddersfield Town in 2015, and his performances attracted interest from a number of clubs, but Rangers moved quickly to land Crooks.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton is happy to send Crooks out on loan as he is currently down the pecking order at Ibrox and he feels he will benefit from playing regularly so that he can regain his match fitness.

A number of Championship and League One clubs have expressed an interest in taking Crooks on loan, but Scunthorpe have secured his signature.

Crooks is currently undergoing a medical at and he is set to become Graham Alexander’s second signing of the day following the arrival of Ivan Toney on loan from Newcastle.
