Rangers are reportedly keen on Heidenheim midfielder Niklas Dorsch – and their hopes of bringing him to Ibrox may have received a real boost.
InFranken in Germany reported in May that Rangers are keen on Dorsch, and are rivalling Hamburg for his signature this summer.
The 22-year-old is primarily a holding midfielder who protects his back four whilst possessing real ability on the ball, having notched five assists this season.
Rangers may have been left waiting though. Heidenheim reached the promotion playoffs in 2. Bundesliga, meaning Dorsch’s fate rested on two games against Werder Bremen.
A 0-0 draw in the first leg teed up Monday’s second leg at Heidenheim. Sadly for the second-tier side, Bremen claimed a 2-2 draw and went through on away goals, despite Tim Kleindienst’s brace.
Heidenheim must now settle for another season in the second tier, and that will naturally lead to questions about Dorsch’s future.

The former Bayern Munich talent has one year left on his contract, and having missed out on promotion to the top flight, he may feel that the time is right to move on.
Rangers will surely have been watching last night’s events very closely, and if they really do want Dorsch, then the time is right to strike for him after his promotion heartbreak.
