As Glasgow Rangers youngster Glenn Middleton prepares to leave Ibrox and join Scottish Premiership rivals Hibernian on loan, Hibs midfielder Stevie Mallan thinks the Easter Road club’s style of play will suit the Light Blues ace “down to a tee” (Edinburgh Evening News).

The 19-year-old was close to agreeing a season-long switch to Dutch outfit NAC Breda last week but Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admitted earlier this week that his player had a change of heart and will now remain in Scotland, albeit plying his trade across the M8 (Edinburgh Evening News).

Middleton will link up with Paul Heckingbottom’s side after the fixture between the two teams at Ibrox this Sunday, Hibs having been left reeling by winger Martin Boyle being again ruled out for months due to the need for a second operation this year on his knee.

Mallan, who played alongside Middleton in Scotland’s Under-21 side, feels that the Gers ace is not only a very talented player, given how much food for thought he’s given Gerrard, but also an ideal replacement for Boyle, and should gel quickly at the capital club.

“Glenn’s a top-quality player and that’s great for us,” Mallan told the Edinburgh Evening News. “Martin’s injury came as a shock… but it’s good we have brought someone in so quickly and we’ll hopefully get the same from Glenn.

“He brings a lot of pace like Martin and a lot of quality. He has shown that when Gerrard has picked him, he played a lot of games for them in the Europa League as well. So I think he’ll enjoy his time here because we play a lot of attacking football and that will suit him to a tee given the position he plays. I think he’ll settle in well with this team.”

Middleton was brought to Ibrox by Graeme Murty in January 2018, and the Norwich City academy graduate has gone on to register five goals and five assists in 27 appearances for the Light Blues (Transfermarkt).
