Glasgow Rangers welcome the Dutch side to Ibrox this week for a Europa League group clash.
Glasgow Rangers cult hero Michael Mols has identified Feyenoord winger Steven Berghuis as the Eredivisie side comes to Ibrox on Thursday night for a Europa League Group G match (Glasgow Evening Times).
The Rotterdam side won the Eredivisie title three years ago but followed that up with fourth and third-placed finishes, 17 and 21 points behind respective champions PSV Eindhoven and Ajax.
This term, Feyenoord sit seventh in the table and, although they are unbeaten, three draws from their first five games have left them four points behind the pacesetters from Amsterdam and Eindhoven.
Nonetheless, Berghuis has enjoyed a superb start to the 2019-20 campaign, bagging five goals and four assists in just eight games in all competitions, and even though he missed out on the win over ADO Den Haag with a knee injury, head coach Jaap Stam said he had returned to fitness (Daily Record).
In conversation with the Glasgow Evening Times, Mols – who has played for both Rangers and Feyenoord – said: “I think the winger, Steven Berghuis, is a dangerous player and a good player. He is very quick, very skilful and he has a good shot with his left so he is someone that Rangers will have to be aware of.
“It is always in the nature of teams from Holland to play football, to attack. We are not defensively minded, we don’t look to park the bus. There is a certain kind of mind that means they will attack and they have some dangerous players up front, players with pace and individual skills. Rangers have to be careful.”
Rangers currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership table with 12 points from five games, as well as having reached the third round of the Scottish League Cup.
