Michael Beale wants to see Rangers sign more Scottish players as he considers his options to tweak his squad after taking the Ibrox job.
We say tweak, but it may actually be time for Rangers to go through something of a rebuild.
The Gers may have won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 but it already feels like the squad at Ibrox needs revamping.
Ageing goalkeepers, injured centre backs, a lack of real drive and creativity in midfield, mixed end product out wide and question marks over Alfredo Morelos… it’s not a great mix.
Director of football Ross Wilson is now under huge pressure to bring real quality to Rangers after striking a number of questionable deals.
Beale and Wilson surely have a number of targets in mind for January and 2023 as a whole, with the Rangers boss now outlining his hopes.

Beale wants Scottish signings at Rangers
Rangers boss Beale has now told Football Scotland that he is looking for the Gers to sign Scottish players moving forward.
Beale noted that Rangers can’t just sign Scottish players who aren’t good enough, but feels that the ‘biggest club in Scotland’ needs to have Scottish players front and centre.
“I think they have to be good enough to play for Rangers,” said Beale. “But I think a strong Rangers has always had key Scottish players in that team as well. It is important we have that, certainly, for the make-up of our squad for European football, we need to have the right quota.”
“I do think as a big club, the biggest club in Scotland, we need Scottish players in our squad for sure,” he added.
So who could Rangers sign to bolster their squad in terms of their Scottish quota?
Rangers missed their shot at Lewis Ferguson and may now need to be a little more decisive on Scottish talents.
Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous has been linked but seems more likely to head elsewhere.
What about Billy Gilmour? The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder looks set to go out on loan in January and his love for Rangers should make a move to Ibrox possible.
Sunderland striker Ross Stewart has been a consistent goalscorer for the Black Cats and with Morelos potentially moving on, Stewart could be a replacement.
Young talents like West Ham United right back Harrison Ashby and Hearts prospect James Wilson could fit the bill for Rangers too with Beale keen to have a real impact on recruitment.
