Michael Beale is closing in on a return to Rangers and wants to bring Damian Matthew to Ibrox as he starts to plan his coaching team.

The Gers sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday morning, bringing an end to the Dutchman’s stint in the Ibrox dugout.

Sacking a manager just months after reaching a Europa League final isn’t easy but Rangers clearly felt that the time was right.

Rangers have been assessing their options but it has become clear that their top target for the job is Beale.

Michael Beale wants Damian Matthew at Rangers

Beale served as an assistant coach to Steven Gerrard during his time in charge of Rangers and then followed him to Aston Villa.

Beale decided to go and be a manager himself over the summer, taking charge of Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.

It’s early days for Beale and his managerial career but Rangers have seen enough to push for him to be Van Bronckhorst’s replacement.

The deal is now moving closer after Rangers made their approach for Beale and he already has a move in mind.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Beale wants to bring Damian Matthew to Ibrox.

It’s stated that Beale and Matthew go way back and have known each other for years through their Chelsea history.

The former Charlton Athletic and Southend United coach was one of Beale’s first additions at QPR over the summer and another reunion could now materialise.

Matthew, 52, notes the development of former Charlton prospects Joe Gomez and Jonjo Shelvey as key achievements on his LinkedIn page.

This comes after The Scottish Sun reported that Beale wants to bring a number of coaches and analysts with him from London to Glasgow.

Beale will want more than just Matthew but with a coaching appointment already in mind, it looks like Beale is banking on landing the Ibrox job very soon.
