Rangers keeper Jon McLaughlin was handed a rare start in last night’s win over Livingston as the Ibrox keeper recorded another clean sheet and, despite his limited appearances, the Gers shotstopper deserves a place in Scotland manager Steve Clarke’s side at Euro 2020.

The former Hearts and Sunderland star helped the Gers level the record of Premiership clean sheets in a single season with their 25 in 37 games, was the keepers 12th in 14 appearances in all competitions.

Incredibly, McLaughlin will end the season with as many clean sheets as any of Celtic’s keepers as Rangers celebrate winning the title for the first time in a decade.

With Scotland heading to a major tournament McLaughlin is likely to be on the fringes of the squad but the Rangers man deserves the number one jersey ahead of the likes of David Marshall or Craig Gordon.

Scotland face England, Croatia and the Czech Republic and McLaughlin’s performances for Rangers have been enough to show he should be serious consideration for the gloves rather than simply being in the squad to make up the numbers.

Somehow, McLaughlin has only managed to muster up a handful of caps for Scotland but with Gordon playing in Scotland’s second tier and Marshall hardly setting the world alight in a relegation-threatened Derby County, there should only be one choice.

But he’s retired from international duty so the next best thing is McLaughlin.
