Glasgow Rangers legend Neil McCann has defended the Ibrox new-boy, nine months after confronting him while at Dundee and Kilmarnock respectively.

Glasgow Rangers ex-player Neil McCann has leapt to the defence of Ibrox new-boy Jordan Jones by describing the winger as “fantastic” and looking forward to seeing him in action for Steven Gerrard’s side (Football Scotland).
The Northern Ireland international officially joined Rangers this summer from Kilmarnock after signing a pre-contract agreement in January, and very much hit the ground running as he impressed in the pre-season friendly win over Oxford United before a lively 71-minute cameo in the Europa League against St Joseph’s.
Jones went on to put in another good performance in the 4-0 pre-season friendly win over Marseille but despite looking lively so far, McCann claimed that he heard people wonder whether the 24-year-old is the right signing for the Gers, and sought to give his honest opinion on the matter.
“I heard people speak about Jordan Jones: ‘is he the right signing for Rangers?’,” McCann said on BBC Sportsound, as quoted by Football Scotland. “I think Jordan Jones is a fantastic player, I really, really enjoy watching him.
“He’s got such an upright style, he can go outside, inside. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Jordan performs on that stage at Rangers. They’ve been really constant over the years in wanting wide players, quick players.”

Interestingly, McCann had a spat with Jones just nine months ago, criticising him for diving to win a penalty for Kilmarnock against his Dundee side, telling BBC Sport at the time that he would “have a word” with the former Middlesbrough man if he needed to.
“I went over to the referee to tell him that he has to be sure and he can’t be sure because I’ve just spoken to my players who’ve been told by the player [Jones] that he went down, he dived,” McCann is quoted as saying. “I’ve asked Jordan himself ‘did he take a dive?’. He didn’t answer the question.”
Given the previous bad blood between McCann and Jones, for the former to now stick up for the latter amid criticism after making the switch to Rangers shows that he really must have something special about him and hopefully all Bears will be of a similar mindset come the end of the season.
