Rangers are so far clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table that they may not even need to make signings to get over the line.

The Gers are 21 points ahead of Celtic and seemingly coasting towards the title, so don’t expect Rangers to make big signings this month.

There could be one addition before the window closes though, as Aberdeen winger Scott Wright is thought to be a top target for the Gers.

Wright is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning Rangers could simply strike a pre-contract agreement to sign him for free in the summer.

However, the Glasgow Times report that the deal may actually take place this month, with Greg Stewart heading to Aberdeen in a swap deal.

This could be absolutely ideal for Rangers, even just from the perspective of him being a homegrown player that can replace Stewart in Europe.

Then we get to the profiles of the two players. Stewart turns 31 in March, and he has only managed 113 minutes of first-team action this season.

Stewart hasn’t offered much to Rangers, but adding a youthful, speedy winger with dribbling ability and potential in exchange sounds ideal.

Stewart is out of contract at the end of the season too, and with no plans to extend his deal, landing a player even years his junior in exchange would be some move from Rangers.

Let’s see if they can pull it off, but if Rangers can offload Stewart and sign Wright in one fell swoop, Ross Wilson and co would deserve praise – even if it’s their only January move.
