Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter has attracted interest this month, but the Gers should arguably keep the youngster at Ibrox.
Even the most optimistic of Rangers fan would struggle to argue that Jordan Rossiter’s move to Ibrox has been a success so far, with the midfielder spending most of his time on the sidelines due to injury and only making a handful of appearances for the club.
With the Daily Record reporting earlier in the month that League One leaders Wigan Athletic are considering making a move for the 20-year-old, some Rangers fans would be forgiven for thinking that Graeme Murty should have no hesitation in letting him leave.
But given how young he is and how little he cost when he arrived in 2016, there is surely an argument to be made that the Gers should look to hold onto Rossiter and give him another chance to prove that he can put his injury problems behind him.
If Rossiter can stay fit, £250,000 is going to prove to be one of the best bargains the club have pulled off in recent years. The starlet has the technical ability to be a fantastic player in the middle of the park and he should only get better as he gets older – if he can avoid further injuries.
Given how little he has played since joining Rangers, it would be no surprise if any bid Wigan made or planned to make would see the Gers make a loss on the six-figure amount that they spent.
Therefore, perhaps Rangers should take a gamble and keep Rossiter around for the duration of his contract at least. They are surely not going to be offered an eye-watering amount, and if Rossiter proves himself, the Gers could have a very special player on their hands.
It is a big if at this stage. But given how little he cost, it is surely worth giving him a chance to realise that potential at Ibrox.
