Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have signed Matt Crooks from Accrington Stanley.
Glasgow Rangers new boy Matt Crooks has told the Daily Record that he had to hide from Celtic supporters when he came to watch the Old Firm derby last season.
Crooks and Josh Windass both wanted to see their new Rangers teammates in action, and made the trip north of the border.
However, they made the error of parking with the Celtic fans – and Crooks admits that he had to keep a low profile, while locating his seats at Hampden Park.
“It just so happened we were able to come for the Old Firm cup game,” Crooks recalled.
“We drove up that morning and because we were new to it, we parked the car at the wrong end of the ground. The Celtic end. We had to walk through the Celtic fans to get to the other side. Luckily I’d a coat and a hat, just to make sure, and no-one recognised us.”
Crooks then went to sit in with the Rangers supporters, and he got a taste of the fierce atmosphere when the two Glasgow sides meet.
Crooks was able to celebrate the Ibrox side’s victory, as they managed to get past Celtic on penalties.
Rangers and Celtic drew 2-2 after extra-time, but the Ibrox side’s greater ruthlessness from the spot put them in the final of the Scottish Cup.
Crooks has now had an opportunity to link up with the Rangers players he was watching, after completing his transfer from Accrington Stanley.
The midfielder has traveled to America with the rest of Rangers’ squad, as Mark Warburton puts them through their paces over pre-season.
