Stewart Roberton is still frustrated with the decision
Stewart Robertson says the decision to name Celtic 2019/20 champions without the season having been played to completion ‘left a sour taste in the mouth’.
The season was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 shutdown, with Neil Lennon’s side sitting 13 points ahead of Rangers, who had a game in hand.
On May 18 the SPFL curtailed the season, confirming Celtic as champions and relegating Hearts.
Rangers Managing Director Robertson believes it would have been fairer for the outstanding fixtures to be fulfilled at a later date, as happened in the English Premier League.
As quoted by Record Sport, Robertson told today’s Rangers AGM: “The fashion left a sour taste in the mouth.
“It’s been well publicised what our views were. We wanted games to be played like elsewhere.
“That path wasn’t made available to us.
“The governance of the game has to be better. I think it can be significantly better.
“We feel exactly the same about it now and we are still chipping away at it. I’d like to thank the fans for their undying loyalty they show the football club.”
Steven Gerrard’s team are in a significantly better place this season, currently leading Celtic by 13 points at the top of the Premiership, albeit having played two games more.
Rangers are in Betfred Cup action on Wednesday night, when they travel to Paisley for a quarter-final meeting with St Mirren.
