Rangers are expected to make a final decision on their new manager today, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst leading Frank Lampard in the race.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that the Ibrox hierarchy will make their final call on who their new manager will be today.

It’s no great surprise that the report claims Van Bronckhorst is the ‘hot favourite’ for the job after talks with Rangers over the weekend.

Van Bronckhorst isn’t the only target though, as Rangers have also held talks with Frank Lampard about taking the job.

However, Van Bronckhorst is thought to be top of the list of targets and much more likely to land the job than Lampard is right now.

Van Bronckhorst makes more sense than Lampard for Rangers

Rangers have had to move quickly for a new boss. They were left rocked by Steven Gerrard leaving for Aston Villa last week, but quickly showed an interest in Van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman ticks many boxes for Rangers. Van Bronckhorst won a league title at Feyenoord as well as two domestic cups, he has managed in the Europa League and played pretty attractive football.

Add in that he used to play for Rangers and won’t cost any compensation to appoint, and Van Bronckhorst seems ideal for the Ibrox hierarchy.

Lampard has shown potential as a boss with Derby County and Chelsea, but Van Bronckhorst just seems like the most sensible choice for Rangers.

Time will tell whether Rangers get this decision right, but the Ibrox faithful seem set on Van Bronckhorst replacing Gerrard.
