Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers have brought Nikola Katic to Ibrox.
The Gers have signed Katic from Slaven Belupo in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £2 million.
Liverpool legend and new Rangers manager Gerrard has backed the 21-year-old Croatia international central defender to be a success at the Gers.
The former England international midfielder has also explained how the signing of the youngster came about.
Gerrard told STV: “We watched a lot of Katic over the summer. He was a name that suggested to me when I come in the door so Rangers have monitored him for a long time.
“He’s a player with huge potential already highly thought of in terms of international level in Croatia and for the 21s and he’s already been capped at full-time level.
“We’ve had conversations with people in Croatia who’ve been around the kid for a long time. Loads of background checks, what we do for every player.
“It’s a very detailed process before we even identify them and then we watch the kid play, check the mentality, and we believe he ticks a lot of boxes to come here and play for Rangers and he’ll be able to handle it.”
Good signing for Rangers
Katic has arrived at Rangers having established himself as a key player at Belupo, and there is no doubt that he has great quality, although the youngster could take a while to settle in at Ibrox.
It can be daunting for any young player playing in front of 50,000 fans at Ibrox, and in Gerrard, he will have a manager who knows how to nurture young talent and who himself knows how to success playing in front of passionate and demanding fans.
