Dorrans returned from a spell on the sidelines due to injury on Thursday evening, as the Rangers midfielder featured against Villarreal in Spain in the Europa League.
The Scotland international did not start the match, but the 31-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute in the 85th minute.
Rangers manager Gerrard has underlined the importance of the former West Bromwich Albion midfielder, who was playing his first match at El Madrigal on Thursday evening this season.
The Liverpool legend has also revealed how Dorrans – who joined Rangers from Norwich City in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £1.5 million – supported his teammates when he could not play due to the knee injury.
Gerrard told BBC Sport about Dorrans: “When he is at full fitness he’ll be one of our most experienced, one of our most talented and one of our better players.
“He’s played at a very high level all of his career, he’s got international experience and he’s followed the team everywhere since day one.
“Every away game Graham has been there, he’s been in the dressing room and he’s been helping in a different way.
“I want him to continue that leadership and we’re going to try and accelerate his match fitness as quick as we can.”

Big player
Gerrard’s aforementioned comments underline just how highly the Rangers manager rates Dorrans.
The former Norwich midfielder is a very good player who will be an important figure for Rangers this season.
