The Rangers winger is in Turkey ahead a potential departure.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Sun that it’s possible he will directly replace the outgoing Daniel Candeias in the transfer market this summer.

Candeias is said to be in Turkey ahead of a switch to Genclerbirligi after two seasons at the Gers.

Left out of the club’s UEFA Europa League squads over the last few weeks, Gerrard clearly doesn’t see a future for the Portuguese winger in Glasgow.

It now seems the Ibrox boss could be on the hunt for a replacement to bolster his options.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Gerrard said of Candeias: “I think he has gone over to have the discussions and do whatever else you do when you move clubs.

“If he goes then it’s possible we could bring in someone else.”

Rangers have already signed Sheyi Ojo and Jake Hastie this summer, both of whom can play on the right flank.

With Eros Grezda also available, albeit out of favour, Gerrard does have a bit of depth in the Candeias position.

It would suggest that whoever potentially arrives has real quality that can add proper competition rather than make up the numbers.

Candeias was one of Pedro Caixinha’s most successful signings from the 2017 summer transfer window, scoring 14 goals and assisting 25 times, which is a healthy return across two seasons.

Someone will have to step up and produce that kind of contribution whether it’s Ojo, Hastie or Gerrard’s transfer possibility.

This season Rangers will be looking to progress deep into both domestic cup competitions, sustain a credible title challenge and reach the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.

Doing all of that takes its toll on an ill-equipped squad, with the potential of a 60+ game campaign on the cards.

Having as many quality options as Rangers can afford could be important for Gerrard and his team, also providing the likes of loan signing Ojo with the kind of motivation that could produce a career-to-date highlight season.
