Amid links with Rangers, Australia boss Ange Postecoglou has quit his job.
Rangers are continuing to search for a new manager, but one man allegedly interested in taking the job has just become available.
The Gers sacked manager Pedro Caixinha last month after seven disappointing months in the Ibrox dugout, but almost a month on, Rangers have yet to find a replacement.
Caretaker boss Graeme Murty has won twice and lost once in his second stint in charge this year, but whilst many expected Derek McInnes to land the job, the Aberdeen boss hasn’t been approached yet.
That means that – despite the Caixinha gamble failing to reap rewards – Rangers may be forced to look outside the box for a new manager and potentially take another risk.
Recently, ESPN reported that Australia boss Ange Postecoglou was interested in taking the job, amid rampant speculation over his future and a possible exit.
Now, Postecoglou has resigned from his post as Australia boss, as reported on the Australian FA’s official website, bringing an end to four years in the job.
The 52-year-old – formerly of Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory – now finds himself out of work despite leading Australia to the World Cup, after many thought he would walk away from his post given some poor results.
It remains to be seen whether Rangers do make a move for Postecoglou, but he is now available after leaving his job with Australia – and after a 45% win rate with Australia, he may at least be a name considered if he does apply for the Ibrox job.
