Matt Crooks failed to impress Mark Warburton at Rangers and was loaned out to Scunthorpe United in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old, who can operate as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, made a handful of appearances for Rangers before being shipped off to League One in England.

While the youngster’s performances in the matches he played for Rangers were not exactly great, one has to acknowledge the fact that he struggled with injuries.

Crooks seems to be doing well at Scunthorpe in League One, with the club’s assistant manager Chris Lucketti recently claiming that the versatile player has got “got tremendous talent and ability”.

Lucketti’s comments should not go unheard by Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha, who succeeded Warburton – now at Nottingham Forest – earlier this month.

Caixinha will not be able to work with Crooks for the rest of the season, but he should keep an eye on the youngster in the coming weeks.

During his time at Accrington Stanley, Crooks showed what he is capable of, and the new Rangers manager should give him a fair chance to demonstrate his quality when he returns from his loan spell.
