Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has been quoted as saying by The Scottish Sun that Celtic midfielder Scott Brown was a key player in the Old Firm derby at the weekend.

Celtic got the better of Rangers 2-0 at Hampden Park in Glasgow in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Callum McGregor put the Bhoys in the lead after just 11 minutes, and Scott Sinclair doubled the advantage in the opening minutes of the second period from the penalty spot.

Brown featured for Celtic in the match. The 31-year-old Scotland international midfielder started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Rangers boss Caixinha was impressed with the performance of Brown for Celtic against the Gers.

“I think it was a flat performance by us from the first and second half, especially the first half,” The Scottish Sun quotes Caixinha as saying about Brown. “We could not stop the ways Celtic found our goal, not that they arrived with clear chances.

“But they controlled and managed the game the way they wanted. The key player was Scott – he had a lot of freedom to divide the game and see the game different, take the ball from one side to the other.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, Celtic had 66% of the possession, took 15 shots of which eight were on target, and earned six corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors Rangers had just 34% of the possession, took eight shots of which three were on target, and earned three corners, according to BBC Sport.
