Glasgow Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha speaks highly of Ibrox midfielder Niko Kranjcar, who was signed by Mark Warburton.

Niko Kranjcar joined Rangers in the summer of 2016 amid hype and expectation. The Croatian midfielder arrived at Ibrox with a strong reputation.

The former Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur star was expected to take Rangers to a whole new level.

Signed by Mark Warburton, who was then in charge of the Gers and is now the Nottingham Forest manager, Kranjcar was supposed to be the star for the Gers.

The 32-year-old attacking midfielder’s debut season in Scotland was a disappointment.

Kranjcar missed most of the 2016-17 campaign due to ruptured knee ligaments, but the former Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split man is now fully fit.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha seems to be a fan of Kranjcar and has spoken highly of Kranjcar, who is one of the very few Warburton signings who have proved to be a success for the Gers in the Scottish Premiership.

Caixinha was pleased with Kranjcar’s performance in Rangers’ 1-0 victory over Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn at Ibrox in the first leg of the Europa League first qualifying round on Thursday evening.

“He’s a fantastic player, a playmaker, he’s someone that understands the game,” Caixinha told BT Sport about Kranjcar.

“With some freshness in the legs and some freshness in his decisions, we were producing some fantastic football.

“He knows how to play between lines, how to make the last pass, his delivery on set-pieces were great. So he needs to keep playing to get the rhythm.”
