Glasgow Rangers’ search for their new manager continues, but who do the bookies think may arrive at Ibrox in the near future?
There was an interesting turn in Rangers’ hunt for their new manager, with Michel Preud’homme’s agent telling MailSport on Sunday that the Belgian had held talks with the Gers and would be keen to become Pedro Caixinha’s successor if the Scottish Premiership side decided to approach him formally.
But what does Preud’homme’s talks with the Light Blues mean for the current betting market? Here, HITC Sport has taken a look at the latest odds…
Interestingly, Preud’homme is only the third favourite for the Gers hot-seat at 4/1 with Sky Bet, but he has moved in drastically from odds of 12/1 before the weekend.
Derek McInnes remains the odds-on favourite, but has drifted out slightly, going from 1/2 to 4/5, which certainly suggests that the Aberdeen boss may not be as nailed on for the post as it initially appeared that he may be.
The really intriguing movement in the market involves Walter Smith. The former Rangers manager is now listed as the 7/2 second favourite for the post, having been 16/1 before the weekend, so it would certainly be foolish, it seems, to rule the 10-time Scottish Premiership winner coming back for a third spell as manager.
Meanwhile, judging by Sky Bet, there is probably just one more genuine contender in the running currently, with Alex McLeish listed at 6/1. McLeish has been in serious contention in the betting since Caixinha was sacked, but is yet to edge out as the favourite. But he is some distance ahead of Kevin Muscat (18/1), David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and current caretaker Graeme Murty (all 20/1).
